DES PLAINES, ILL. - In their final regular season tune-up before beginning postseason play this week, the Madison College men's soccer travel dropped a 2-1 match at Region 4 opponent Oakton Community College on Saturday. The match was the first-ever played between the WolfPack and the Owls, and saw the home team rally from a one-goal deficit to hand the Pack their third loss of the season and second in their last three matches to end the regular season schedule.
Neither team was able to generate much offensive push in the first half, as the match remained scoreless deep into the first half before the WolfPack finally broke through. Freshman midfielder/forward
Richie Lima took a pass from fellow first year
Martin Apimbu in the 42', and buried his first goal in the past ten matches to put Madison College on top.
The lead did not hold for long, as Oakton Community College (7-6) netted the equalizer past freshman
Phil McCloskey just six minutes into the second half, and then posted the game-winner in the 72'. Both goals were unassisted.
Lima, a native of Brazil, boasts three goals on the season after also netting two in an August 31 match against Bryant & Stratton College. The goal came on Lima's only shot attempt of the match.
Madison College was out kicked by a 19-9 margin, including a 7-3 disadvantage in shots on goal.
Dominick Ramirez led the WolfPack with three total shots, followed by two from
Adair Tlato.
McCloskey was credited with five saves and two goals allowed.
