MADISON, WISC. - Though the final score was much closer than when the two teams met three weeks prior, the Madison College women's basketball was still able to earn an easy 87-20 victory over Harper College in a North Central Community College Conference contest Saturday inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Sophomore guards
Mrylena Stewart and
Aniah Williams each scored 15 points to lead ten different WolfPack players in the scoring column. The 'Pack, ranked #13 in the
NJCAA Division III Poll, now boasts a 16 game win streak over the Hawks, and holds an 18-2 advantage in the all-time series.
Harper College (1-20, 0-10) scored the game's first basket on their first possession, however, it would be their only basket of the quarter and they would play the next 19:39 seconds without a point until banking in a buzzer beating three at the half. In the meantime, the WolfPack would put together 44-0 run that saw them lead 26-2 after the first quarter and 44-5 at the break. The Hawks shot 2 for 9 and committed 23 turnovers in the half as Madison College produced its lowest points allowed in a half this season. The 'Pack would build a 69-point lead over the next two quarters despite 15 more points from Harper College.
Williams, a NJCAA All-American a season ago, took another step closer to reaching 1,000 point for her career with a 15-point effort that gives her 976 points for her career. The 5'8" native of Beloit, Wisconsin, made 6 of 8 field goals and one 3-pointer, to go along with a pair of free throws to extend her streak of double-digit scoring games to 12. She also contributed four assists and a season-high seven steals.
Stewart posted the same numbers with a 6 for 8 performance from the field that included one long-range shot and a two free throws. The former Madison Memorial High School athlete added four rebounds and two steals while recording her seventh game this season with at least ten points.
Freshman
Amber Sue Udelhoven also reached double-figures, knocking down five of her six shots and making her lone three-point attempt to tally 11 points, three rebounds, and three steals. The Potosi, Wisconsin, product also has seven games in double-digits. Seven other players scored at least five points, with freshmen
Kylie Esser and
Ceraya Morel each grabbing a team-high four rebounds. First year guard
Autumn Delaney set career-highs with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, and a team-leading six assists.
Madison College shot 59% on 35 of 59 shooting overall, marking the second highest percentage in a game this season after posting 62.7% at Harper College. The WolfPack secured a 30-16 edge in rebounding and committed 24 fewer turnovers, which translated to advantages of 8-2 in second chance scoring and 52-5 in points off turnovers. The home team also had a 48-10 lead in points in the paint.
