Region IV Hall of Fame selects Madison College's Terissa Bierd, Melissa Ernst, and Daniel Krause

Trio will be inducted as part of Class of 2020 after impressive careers

The NJCAA Region IV Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2019 Inductees, and it includes three former Madison College student-athletes. Former WolfPack volleyball All-Americans Terissa Bierd and Melissa Ernst, along with former WolfPack baseball All-American Daniel Krause will represent Madison College as part of the 14-member enshrinement class.

Terissa Bierd
A 5'5" outside hitter is rare in college volleyball. A 5'5" outside hitter that dominates all phases of the game is even more rare. Terissa Bierd was just that during her two seasons with the WolfPack. The Deerfield, Wisconsin, native was an immediate impact player at Madison College, leading the 2012 team with 280 kills, 2.80 kills per set, a .199 attack percentage, and 64 aces, while also amassing 276 digs on the year. Bierd and her teammates posted a 10-2 record in the North Central Community College Conference to give the WolfPack its first N4C title. She was recognized for her play receiving first team all-conference and all-region honors, as well as Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American recognition. In her sophomore season, Bierd helped elevate the women's volleyball to the top of the mountain in 2013. The WolfPack went a perfect 12-0 to claim a second straight N4C crown before outlasting Harper College in a five-set thriller to claim its first-ever Region IV title. They proceeded to sweep all three matches at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament and won the program's first national championship. Bierd posted 11 kills and three aces in the title match and was named the NJCAA DIII Tournament Most Valuable Player. She finished second on the team in nearly every statistical category, which led to Bierd's name being placed among the program's all-time greats. In addition to being part of 58 wins over two year, she ranks fourth in career aces (106), fifth in all-time kills (504), and eighth in total digs (579).

Melissa Ernst
The Madison College women's volleyball program wasn't always on the national map. That all changed when, following a run to a #3 ranking during her freshman season, Melissa Ernst and the 2009 WolfPack were able to put it all together and chase a national championship during her sophomore campaign. The 6'1" outside hitter from Middleton, Wisconsin, led the 'Pack offense with 333 kills, 3.00 kills per set, and a .264 attack percentage, while also guiding the defensive effort with 269 digs and a 2.42 digs per set average. In addition, she added 39 blocks and 36 aces to her impressive season stats. New to the North Central Community College Conference and Region IV, Madison College sent a strong message with a 10-2 N4C record to earn second, with Ernst picking up N4C Player of the Year accolades and first team all-conference distinction. She and the WolfPack then set their sights on a first-ever Region IV crown, which they acheived with a five-set defeat of Rock Valley College. Ernst added Region IV All-Tournament Team and All-Region IV honors to her growing list of postseason awards as Madison College prepared for their first appearance at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. With back-to-back sweeps of their first two opponents, the WolfPack found themselves in the title match against Brookhaven College (TX), but would fall 3-1. Ernst went on to receive NJCAA Division III All-Tournament Team and NJCAA First Team All-American recognition. She left Madison College having been a part of 61 wins, and ranking fourth in program history in single-season kills, 12th in career kills (411), and 21st in all-time digs (397). Following her time at Madison College, Ernst went on to play at NAIA Judson University in Illinois.

Daniel Krause
During a time when Madison College was making a historic run of national tournament appearances, Daniel Krause played baseball at an extremely high-level. The 6'0" infielder and catcher arrived on campus in 2013 and was an instant success. Krause led the team with 65 hits, a .433 batting average, a .527 slugging percentage, and a .476 on base percentage. The native of Germantown, Wisconsin, also accumulated 38 runs scored, 34 runs batted in, and 12 stolen bases as the WolfPack went 43-13, including an 11-1 mark that earned a third consecutive North Central Community College Conference title. After defeating Kankakee Community College to pick up a fourth straight Region IV title, the 'Pack was back at the NJCAA Division II World Series for the fourth year in a row. Madison College earned its best Division II finish in school history by going 4-2 to secure third place in Enid, Oklahoma. Krause impressed on all levels and took home NJCAA First Team All-American, First Team All-Region IV, and First Team All-N4C honors. In his second season, Krause registered 59 hits, 40 runs scored, 20 RBI, six stolen bases, and went .337/.406/.450 at the plate. The WolfPack were again conference champs at 11-1 and again took down Kankakee Community College to secure a fifth straight Region IV crown and trip to the DII World Series, where they went 3-2 to once again take third place overall. Krause received second team all-conference recognition his sophomore season, and departed Madison College with an 88-24 record, two conference titles, two region championships, and two third place finishes at the national tournament. He currently ranks 11th in school history with 124 career hits and sits 18th with an all-time batting average of .382. Krause left Madison College to further his baseball career at NCAA Division I Kansas State University.

The Class of 2020 inductees give Madison College ten student-athletes and three national championship team enshrinements into the Region IV Hall of Fame since the school first became eligible in 2017.
