ROCKFORD, ILL. - Wednesday's North Central Community College Conference matchup featured two teams both ranked in the latest
NJCAA Division III Poll, however, Rock Valley College proved to be the better team with an 84-64 win to remain unbeaten in league games. The #13 WolfPack, who entered the national rankings for the first time since 2018, were unable to slow the offensive attack of the #3 Golden Eagles, and were paced offensively by
Olivia Marron and
Aniah Williams. The win gives RVC a fourth consecutive regular season series sweep after they also beat the 'Pack
79-74 in Madison, and pushes their lead in the all-time series to 24-18.
Madison College held an 8-7 lead with 5:21 remaining in the first quarter when Rock Valley College (18-6, 8-0) put together an 11-3 push to go up by seven after the first ten minutes. The WolfPack responded to start the second quarter as Marron's interior bucket made it 27-25 almost midway through. A 12-5 push to end the half put the home team ahead by nine at the break. The turning point came in the third quarter as RVC outscored Madison College 26-13 and led by as much as 24 points, while the 'Pack committed ten of the 27 turnovers. The final ten minutes played much more evenly, with the visitors only getting as close as 18 points.
Marron, a first year forward, nearly pulled off her third double-double of the season, racking up 19 points and nine rebounds. The native of La Farge, Wisconsin, was 9 for 14 from the field with a free throw and fell one point shy of matching her career high 20, but did register her eighth double-digit scoring game of the season. She also rejected a pair of Golden Eagles shots for her third outing with multiple blocks.
Williams continues her push towards the 1,000-point plateau as her 16 points moved the Beloit, Wisconsin, native to 961 for her career. The sophomore struggled from long range, going 1 for 9 as part of a 4 for 19 performance overall, but did knock down 7 of 10 free throws. Williams added a season-high seven rebounds and a team-leading four assists.
All ten players that saw the floor scored at least one basket. Rock Valley College took advantage the WolfPack errors with a 28-10 lead in points off turnovers, and also was plus-seven in second chance points as a result of 23 offensive rebounds.Â

Madison College (13-8, 5-4) will close out the home portion of the regular season schedule with a two-game homestand that begins Saturday, February 1 against Harper College (1-19, 0-9). The WolfPack scored a season-high in points back on January 8 in a
100-15 victory in Palatine, Illinois, which extended their winning streak in the series to 15 consecutive games and handed the 'Pack a 17-2 lead all-time against the Hawks. Tip off is at 1:00 p.m.

H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, as the WolfPack women's and men's basketball teams will be coming together to celebrate Play4Kay Pink Day to help fight breast cancer and Black History Month.Â
