WolfPack's first N4C win comes in historic fashion

Five score in double-figures as 85-point win is largest victory in 16 years

PALATINE, ILL. - The first North Central Community College Conference win this season for the Madison College women's basketball team also marked the largest victory in program history, as they dismantled Harper College by a 100-15 final Wednesday night. Behind a season-high five double-digit scorers, the 85-point margin of victory is the largest since a 106-20 decision over Waukesha County Technical College in February 2004. The win is also the 15th consecutive over the Hawks, and puts the 'Pack ahead in the all-time series by a 17-2 tally.

For the second time this season, Madison College held the opposition scoreless for the entire first quarter, matching their effort in a 66-point victory last month at UW-Richland. The WolfPack shot 73.6% with 14 field goals and three 3-pointers en route to a 33-0 start to the game. Following a Kylie Esser bucket to open the second quarter, Harper College (0-13, 0-2) was finally able to get on the scoreboard after an 11-minute scoring drought. The visitors ended the half with six consecutive points and owned a 49-7 advantage. The second half remained a lopsided affair with Madison College outscoring the home team by 20 in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth quarter.

The WolfPack finished the game with a season-best 42 baskets and a shooting percentage of 62.7%, which included nine makes from long range and a 7 for 9 mark at the free throw line. Madison College posted a 35-21 edge in rebounding and were plus-26 in turnovers due to a season-low 10 for coach Lois Heeren's club. Offensively, the WolfPack held leads of 49-2 for points off turnovers, 58-6 in points in the paint, and 14-2 in second chance scoring.

All 12 WolfPack players played and scored in the game, led by freshman Hailey Kaenel's career-high 14 points off the bench. The 5'7" guard from Montello, Wisconsin, made 5 of 9 shots and went 3 for 5 outside the arc on her way to the second game of double-figure scoring this season.

Sophomore guard Aniah Williams and Esser, a first year forward, both racked up 12 points. Williams connected on 5 of 10 shots with a pair of triples, while Esser was a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor for the second game with ten or more points this season for the native of Highland, Wisconsin.

Forwards Lilly Dorman and Kyianna Baker rounded out the top scorers with ten points a piece. Dorman, a sophomore transfer from NJCAA Division III Hibbing Community College (MN), posted her third double-double of the season with a team-high ten boards. She leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per game, slightly ahead of Baker's 6.0 rpg. The former Stoughton High School athlete had five rebounds, and was also a perfect 5 for 5 shooting the basketball. Freshman guard Karlee Van Gysel returned to the team after missing the past ten games and produced a team-best six assists, along with seven points and three rebounds.
