Webster strikes golden goal to sweep series with Joliet

Goalkeeper Kubicek earns record-tying shutout

JOLIET, ILL. - In yet another intense North Central Community College Conference women's soccer battle between Madison College and Joliet Junior College, the WolfPack were able to find a way to come out on top in dramatic fashion. Freshman Lydia Webster was the hero with a game-winning golden goal in the first overtime to give the 'Pack a 1-0 win and a sweep of the regular season series with the Wolves for the first time since 2015. Madison College is now 11-3-1 in head-to-head meetings.

Unlike the 6-1 blitz the WolfPack put on Joliet Junior College (5-5, 4-3), the season's second match saw both teams come up empty on numerous scoring opportunities. Madison College, which entered the game having re-entered the NJCAA Division III Poll at #10, had ten total shots in the first 45 minutes, while the home team rattled off four, however, the opposing goalkeepers were up to the task and made a combined eight saves. Those numbers all increased in the second half with 21 combined total shots and 11 combined saves to send the game into extra time tied at 0-0.

In the first overtime, Webster fired off the first shot on goal less than four minutes in, but was denied by the Wolves 'keeper. Then in the 97', Madison College was awarded a penalty kick, and the 5'1" midfielder/defender came through with a successful kick to give the WolfPack a one-goal win. The DeForest, Wisconsin, native now owns four goals and a team-leading two game-winners. Webster and sophomore Jenna Kohrt tied for team-high honors with six total shots and four shots on goal each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Kubicek made eight saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season, and the 12th shutout of her career. That ties the Oregon, Wisconsin, native with current assistant coach Brandie Gospodarek ('16-'17) for the school record in career shutouts.

Madison College finished with a 23-14 lead in total shots and a 13-8 edge in shots on goal.
