MADISON, WISC. - Goalkeeper
Kelly Kubicek earned a record-setting victory as she and the Madison College women's soccer team defeated Triton College by a 5-0 final Saturday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The sophomore became the program's all-time leader in shutouts with 13 in helping the WolfPack, then the tenth-ranked team in the
NJCAA Division III Poll, to a third straight win. The 'Pack, who have not lost in six consecutive matches, swept the regular season series with the Trojans and are now 10-1-2 in the all-time series. Madison College also defeated Triton College by a
5-0 final on September 4.
Kubicek, a native of Oregon, Wisconsin, only needed to make one save against a Triton College (1-6, 1-5) team that only was able to generate four total shots against the WolfPack defense. The 5'7" goalkeeper surpassed the 12 career shutouts of former WolfPack standout and current assistant coach
Brandie Gospodarek, and now has five shutouts on the current season. She and Gospodarek are also tied for most shutouts in a single season with eight.
Madison College dominated the game on the offensive end, amassing 23 total shots and putting 17 on goal. The first of those shots came less than 90 seconds into the match when sophomore
Jenna Kohrt converted a perfect pass from freshman
Lydia Webster that gave Kohrt an open look right in front of the net. In the match's 21', first year forward/winger
Haylee Miles took advantage of some poor Trojans passing and came up with a loose ball right at the 18-yard line and looped a kick over the opposing goalie to make it 2-0.
Kohrt pushed the lead to 3-0 with her second scoring strike of the game in the 28'. The Monona, Wisconsin, native shook one defender after receiving a Mackenzie Bielecki pass and netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Just before the end of the half, Miles added her name to the list of players with two goals in the game by knocking in a well-placed touch pass from fellow freshman
Claire Arbuckle to make it 4-0. Miles, a product of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, boasts three goals on the season.
The second half saw the 'Pack tack on one more goal just six minutes into the action. Second year defender
Kaitlyn Clapper spun a corner kick off the hands of the Triton College 'keeper and into the net for her first career goal.
