WolfPack's Burmeister named 2019 NJCAA DII Assistant of the Year by ABCA/Baseball America

Third year assistant coach & recruiting coordinator has helped Madison College return to the national stage

Madison College assistant baseball coach Trevor Burmeister was recently named the 2019 NJCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Baseball America. The WolfPack assistant coach and recruiting coordinator earns the honor after his third season with the program. Burmeister will be recognized at the ABCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, in January 2020.

"This award is well-deserved," boasts head coach Mike Davenport. "Burm is a tremendous coach and has been a large part of our program's success as a coach and a player. He has acted as our recruiting coordinator for the past year, and his first recruiting class is as highly-regarded as any in my tenure. Everyone who works with Trevor is extremely fortunate to have someone as committed to bettering himself and those around him as he is."

Here's what Baseball America and the ABCA said about Burmeister in their August 14 press release:

"Burmeister returned to Madison, where he had been an all-conference player in 2011, prior to the 2017 season. Burmeister has helped the WolfPack to back-to-back NJCAA Division II World Series appearances in 2018 and 2019, as well as three NJCAA Regional Tournament appearances. During Burmeister's first three seasons on staff, the WolfPack have averaged 38 wins per season.

Burmeister had helped Madison College consistently win at the regional and national level since being hired prior to the 2017 season. He and the WolfPack claimed the North Central Community College Conference crown in 2019. Madison College is 101-64 with Burmeister on the coaching staff, while also boasting three NJCAA All-Americans, 14 NJCAA All-Region IV recipients, and 12 All-N4C selections. Among that group is also one N4C Most Valuable Player, one Region IV Player of the Year, two Region IV Tournament Most Valuable Players, and two NJCAA DII World Series All-Tournament picks.

Burmeister, who also coaches with GRB Academy in DeForest, Wisconsin, played two seasons with the WolfPack from 2010-2011. He earned all-conference accolades as a sophomore and was a two-time academic all-conference honoree, all while aiding in two more trips to the NJCAA Division II World Series. After Madison College, the Verona, Wisconsin, native moved on to play for NCAA Division III UW-La Crosse, where he then began his coaching career as an assistant in 2014. In 2016, he served as hitting coach at NCAA Division II Minnesota-Duluth, where he helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Regionals and rank among the best in the nation in batting average and home runs.
