MADISON, WISC. - The basepath from home to first at
Robin Roberts Field took a beating on Saturday during a pair of Region IV victories over NJCAA Division I Kishwaukee College that helped the Madison College baseball team run it's win streak to three straight. The
#19-ranked WolfPack took full advantage of 21 walks to secure wins of 16-3 and 11-1, both ending in five-inning, run-rule. The 'Pack, who already defeated the Kougars in a
pair of shutout decisions back in March, have won six consecutive in the series and 11 of the last 12 to take a 37-23-1 lead all-time.
Game #1: #19 Madison College 16, Kishwaukee College 3 (5 innings)
Both team's struggled on the mound to begin the day, with Madison College starter
Taylor Jansen walking three batters in the first half inning to give up an early run. The WolfPack took three walks of their own in the bottom half, which saw the Kougars remove their starter after two base on balls to the first two batters.
Nick Gile then drove in two runs with the single to put the 'Pack on top. A walk and an error later and it was 3-1. Kishwaukee tied it at three in the second inning, but the home team responded with eight runs to take the lead for good. The inning featured six walks, two pitching changes, and a three-RBI single from freshmen catcher
Henry Henk that made it 11-3. Madison College made it 13-3 in the third and rounded out the scoring in the fourth with three more runs.
Of their nine hits, Henk finished with a third of them, going a perfect 3 for 3 with three runs batted in and a run scored. The Shakopee, Minnesota, native set career-high marks for hits and RBI. Gile and
Jarrett Scheelk matched Henk with three runs driven in, while the duo also sat atop the runs scored list with three each. Freshman
Carson Holin also crossed home three times.
Jansen, a former Sun Prairie High School athlete, was credited with three earned runs on three hits and six walks, while also striking out three in his four innings of work. The righthander is now 4-2 after back-to-back wins. Sophomore
Carl Renz came out of the bullpen to toss the final inning, striking out two of the four batters he face and issuing one walk.
Game #2: #19 Madison College 11, Kishwaukee College 1 (5 innings)
Game two had a similar feel to it, with a leadoff walk from WolfPack starter
Andy Neu leading to the game's first run. The team's combined for five walks in the first inning, but after a 1-2-3 top of the second, Kishwaukee College (4-29-1) against struggled to get out of the home half. An error and two singles tied the game as
Jordan Williams drove in
Luke Malmanger. The WolfPack scored six more runs, with only one coming on a RBI - a single through the left side by
Lucas Trebian. Otherwise there were three walks, two errors, and three wild pitches. The bottom of the third inning featured four walks, three wild pitches, two hits, and one error as the differential reached 11-1. Malmanger picked up to RBI with a single to left.
Seven different players had base hits for Madison College. Malmanger, a native of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Madison, Wisconsin, native
Lucas Trebian each posted two runs driven in.
Adam LaRock and
Derek Lee tied for team honors with two runs scored.
Neu (3-1) tossed three innings and surrendered just one unearned run on a single hit and two walks. The product of Kewaskum, Wisconsin, had four strikeouts.
Jarrett Scheelk and
Jackson Brown each tossed a scoreless inning in relief, with both picking up one K.

Madison College (32-9) travels to NJCAA Division I South Suburban College (26-21) on Sunday, May 5 for another twin bill starting at noon in South Holland, Illinois.
