#19 WolfPack make it five straight with sweep of South Suburban

Madison College to conclude regular season with Sophomore Day on Tuesday against Oakton

SOUTH HOLLAND, ILL. - Playing their final true road games of the season, the Madison College baseball team had little trouble in sweeping Sunday's doubleheader at NJCAA Division I South Suburban College. The #19-ranked WolfPack were better in all facets of the game en route to wins of 9-1 and 9-2, extending their current win streak to five games over the last three days. The teams have split their last four meetings and the Bulldogs still lead the all-time series by a narrow 20-18 count.

Game #1: #19 Madison College 9, South Suburban College 1 (7 innings)

Madison College got on the board first with a two-out rally in the first inning. With two runners aboard, sophomore Jarrett Scheelk double to left to plate Nick Gile and Adam LaRock for a 2-0 lead. Catcher Lucas Trebian drove in another run in the second before the 'Pack tacked on three additional scores in the third. Scheelk and Marquis Reuter picked up RBI in that inning, which featured four hits, two steals, and an error. Another run in the fourth on a LaRock ground ball through the left side put Madison College up 7-0 before the Bulldogs tallied their first run in the home half. A wild pitch in the fifth pushed the advantage to 8-1, and Reuter added another run batted in on a bloop single to center that allowed LaRock to touch home in the seventh.

Starter Troy Hickey (4-1) earned his fourth consecutive victory as he held SSC to one unearned run on three hits and six walks in his five-plus innings of work. The lefthander from Silver Lake, Wisconsin, struck out five batters before giving way to fellow second year hurler Brandon Komar, who fanned two of the five batters he faced over the game's final inning and two-thirds.

Four different players posted multiple hits in the game, with the two through six hitters going a combined 9 for 15 with six runs batted in and eight runs scored. Scheelk, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, used his two hits to drive in three and score on, while Reuter had two RBI and a run scored with his pair of hits. Gile and LaRock both had two hits and two runs scored, with LaRock also picking up an RBI. And Nathan Aide also crossed home twice in the game.

Game #2: #19 Madison College 9, South Suburban College 2 (7 innings)

Nineteen Madison College players saw action in the twin bill finale. Again, the WolfPack got out in front early with two second-inning runs. Sophomore Marquis Reuter got it started with a lead-off home run to center for his fourth of the season. Fellow Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native Carson Holin followed with a double, and scored three batters later with a sacrifice fly from Pierson Gibis. Holin then drove in Nick Gile in the third to make it 3-0, which it stayed until the fifth when an error and two hits accounted for three runs. Nathan Aide picked up two runs batted in with a double to right that pushed the differential to a half-dozen. Gile fully put the game out of reach with one swing in the seventh, driving a 2-1 pitch beyond the centerfield wall for a three-run homer.

Gile finished 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored. The homer is the sixth of the season, matching his output from a season ago. The sophomore infielder from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, also boosted his career RBI total to 99, leaving him six away from tying the program's all-time leader in runs batted in.

Holin posted a career-best three hits, leading to one run driven in and another scored. Aide and Walker Jenkins both enjoyed two-hit games, with Aide bringing in two runs and Jenkins scoring one and batting in another.

Madison College used six pitchers in the game, starting with freshman Patrick Foldy (6-1). The had not appeared in a game over the past 16 days, but was able to work four scoreless innings and scatter three hits and two walks en route to his sixth consecutive victory. The former Sussex Hamilton High School athlete also retired three batters via strikeout. Fellow first year Connor Jasurda worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning with two K's, before Carl Renz, Jarrett Scheelk, and Jackson Brown teamed up for the sixth innings. Eliot Turnquist tossed the final frame and allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on a hit and a walk.
