Herrera, WolfPack pick up key win over #6 Triton

Sophomore's two goals enough to push Madison College near top of N4C standings

RIVER GROVE, ILL. - The Madison College men's soccer team made it up and over one of its most consistent road blocks on Wednesday with a 2-1 road win over Triton College. The narrow victory allows the WolfPack to pull even closer to the #6-ranked Trojans atop the North Central Community College Conference standings. The 'Pack, who lost in penalty kicks in last year's Region IV Championships to Triton, had not beaten them since the 2016 season and have just seven wins in 27 all-time meetings.

Madison College went up 1-0 in the game's 24' with an unassisted goal from sophomore scoring leader Dejesus Herrera and maintained that lead into halftime. Still up by a single goal, the WolfPack surrendered the equalizer in the 69' to the Trojans (10-2, 6-2), who seemed poised to take control of the match.

However, the 'Pack was ready to answer the bell and less than 90 seconds later, sophomore D/M Logan Carstens set up Herrera for the game-winner in the 72'. Herrera, a former Madison West HS athlete and transfer from NCAA Division II University of Charleston (WV), now sits one goal back of tying the program's single season goals scored record of 19 set by Witi Montes in 1981. It is also his fourth game-winning goal of the season.

Trying to protect the lead, the WolfPack allowed just two shots - one of which was on goal - over the final 19 minutes. First year goalkeeper Msughter Abel Dzoho made eight saves in a match that saw the home team post an 18-5 advantage in total shots and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.
