VERONA, WISC. & ELGIN, ILL. - The final weekend of September was a highly successful one for the Madison College women's soccer team, who scored a pair of victories and now own a three-game winning streak. The WolfPack opened Friday with a narrow 2-1 decision over Triton College at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona and then tallied a 5-2 victory at Elgin Community College on Sunday behind a hat trick by
Arianna Viscarra.
Game #1: Madison College 2, Triton College 1
Looking for a season sweep over the Trojans (4-6, 2-5), the WolfPack found themselves in much closer tussle the second time around than the
4-0 final on the last day of August.
Scoreless through the first third of the match, Madison College broke through first when sophomore
Arianna Viscarra kicked in a goal in the 35th minute. Triton, however, would answer seven minutes later, sneaking a shot past
Brandie Gospodarek to even the score.
It remained tied until the 70th minute as
Lindsay Kraemer tallied the game-winner, her second of the season, as the 'Pack improved to 3-4 in league action.
The win came despite the WolfPack putting just five shots on goal compared to 11 by the visitors. Gospodarek finished with ten saves, her fourth match with double-digit redirections.
Madison College now boasts a 4-1-1 advantage all-time against North Central Community College foe Triton.
Game #2: Madison College 5, Elgin Community College 2
Scoring came early and often as the WolfPack earned their third consecutive win and second straight against the Spartans.
Sophomore
Lindsay Kraemer began the festivities with a goal in the tenth minute off an assist from fellow second year
Arianna Viscarra. A third sophomore,
Katie Travis increased the lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute, and Viscarra tallied a third goal just before the halftime whistle.
For Viscarra, the day was really only just beginning. Every time Elgin (3-4) was able to score to keep the match close, the Madison, Wisconsin, native had an answer. Viscarra scored goals in the 73rd and 90th minutes to help keep the Spartans at bay and to earn her second hat trick in the past three games. She also leads the team with nine goals on the season, seven of which have come in the three-game winning streak.
Goaltender
Brandie Gospodarek turned away seven shots while allowing the two goals. The native of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, was also credited with a rare goalie assist, doing so on Vicarra's second goal.
Madison College (6-4, 3-4) hits the road again on Wednesday, September 28 for a N4C showdown with #3 Rock Valley College (8-0-1, 5-0-1). The Golden Eagles, one of two unbeaten team's remaining in league play, have beaten the WolfPack in all five prior meetings, including a
2-0 decision earlier this month in Madison. Game time in Rockford, Illinois, is set for 4:00 p.m.
