Box Score Madison College Baseball earned their first win of the the 2015 season with a 9-5 victory over NJCAA Division II Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ.
The game was back and forth through the first three innings as Madison scored one run in the top the second and Paradise Valley responded with one of their own in the top of the second. Then, in the third inning both teams scored two runs and the scored remained tied at 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh. In the top of the seventh, the WolfPack scored six runs on six hits including a
Travis Hamilton three-run home run. The Pumas added two runs in the bottom of the ninth but could not overcome the WolfPack's six run seventh inning.
For the third straight game,
Brandon Gibis led the team in batting by going 4-for-6. Univeristy of Virgina transfer,
Tony Butler, was 3-for-6 with an RBI and second year standout,
Luke Yapp was flawless at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Six other WolfPack players had at least one hit as the 'Pack out hit the host Pumas 15-9. Three Madison College pitchers saw action including
Derek Heffel,
Brandon Parr and
Brandon Gibis. Heffel started and pitched six innings, striking out a game-high seven batters and walked just one. He scattered five hits and gave up three earned runs.
Brandon Parr pitched two and a third innings in relief. Parr walked three and surrendered two earned runs on three hits before turning it over to
Brandon Gibis. Gibis faced five batters walking one and allowing just one hit.
The WolfPack are now 1-2 and will face Glendale Community College in a one nine inning game today at 1:00 p.m. in Glendale, AZ.
