The Madison College men's basketball team suffered a pair of setbacks at the Carl Sandburg Classic in Galesburg, Illinois, on November 20 and 21. The WolfPack dropped a 74-64 contest to Black Hawk College-Moline in the opener before falling to host Carl Sandburg College by a 76-69 final and an overall record of 2-5.
Tournament Game #1 - vs. Black Hawk College-MolineThe tournament opener was a tightly played game through the first half, with Madison College trailing by just five points at the break. The Braves took control in the second half, building a 16 point advantage with an 11-0 run before
Toby Andrews hit a three-pointer with 10:23 to play. The WolfPack never got closer than being down nine the rest of the way. Black Hawk College-Moline controlled the interior, owning a 34-18 edge in points in the paint for the game. Three players scored in double figures, led by
Jake Andrews. The second year guard hit four 3-pointers en route to 16 points.
Cortez McCree tallied 14 points with three makes from beyond the arc and a team-high four assists.
Tyler Meier also knocked down three triples to reach 11 points.
Griffin Eckhart and
Marquise Pollard tied for the team lead with seven rebounds each. Madison College shot 39% (22-56) for the game and committed 19 turnovers.

Markus Tobias had his best game in blue and silver, posting a double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds. It also marked his first career collegiate start, and Tobias rewarded coach
Scot Vesterdahl with an 11-for-15 effort shooting and seven offensive rebounds that helped give the visitors a ten-point advantage in second chance points. Fellow first year
Cortez McCree reach double-figure scoring for the third consecutive game with 13 points and three more makes from outside the arc for the Madison La Follette product. The free throw discrepancy was significant as Carl Sandburg made 15-of-19 shots from the line, while Madison College was just 1-for-5.
Madison College has dropped three consecutive games away from Redsten Gym, and will remain on the road for the next two. It begins with a trip to Rochester, Minnesota, on Tuesday, November 24 to play Rochester Community & Technical College. Tip is set for 8:00 p.m.
