WolfPack volleyball beats Nassau, Falls to Rochester in 5 game thriller

Madison College women's volleyball played in two games on the first day of the 2015 NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball National Tournament in Rochester, MN. The WolfPack dominated #8 seed Nassau Community College (NY) in three straight games (25-14, 25-14, 25-12) in their first match. In their second match they faced a familiar foe in Rochester CTC for the third time this season. In a back-in-forth match the WolfPack eventually fell to the host Yellowjackets in five games (25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 18-25, 14-16).

Tournament Match 1 - vs. #8 Seed - Nassau Community College
The #1 ranked WolfPack started fast in their first match of the 2015 national tournament as the 'Pack allowed Nassau to score not more than 14 points in any of their three games. Madison College rolled 25-14, 25-14 and 25-12. Former McFarland standout, Stevie Winer led the team in digs (11) and aces (4) while second year setter, Brianne Brueggen, recorded 18 assists. The WolfPack's Andrea Bauer had a team-high seven kills and Taylor Genthe and Abbey Loken accounted for three blocks each. Madison College tallied 30 kills and a .244 hitting percentage for the game.

Tournament Match 2 - vs. #4 Seed - Rochester Community & Technical College
With a win over Nassau, the WolfPack advanced to play Rochester CTC, who the 'Pack had beat on two occassions eariler in the season. The match was intense from the start with both sides trading games. In the first game, Madison College pulled out a 25-22 win. Rochester then rallied to take game two, 25-23 before both teams traded games with the WolfPack winning 25-15 in the third game and the Yellowjackets winning the fourth game, 25-18, to set up a game five. In the final game, the Yellowjackets rallied to pull out a 16-14 victory.

Madison College had 69 total kills for the match and 22 came from first year player, Andrea Bauer, who led the WolfPack. TeAnn Harms added 14 kills while Abbey Loken had 13. Brianne Brueggen dished out an astouding 63 assists while Stevie Winer had a game-high 35 digs. Allie Lehner led the team in blocks with six and three WolfPack players had one ace. The five set loss ended the WolfPack's 26 game win streak and their chance at a third straight national title.

With the loss, the WolfPack play Monroe Community College tomorrow (Saturday, November 14) at 12:30 PM in the third place game. The team will be looking to finish with their fourth top three national finish in program history. Tomorrow's game can be watched online at NJCAA TV.
