WolfPack baseball closes out regular season strong

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Sunday, the Madison College baseball team closed out their regular season exactly how they would've like, sweeping South Suburban College. The WolfPack beat the Bulldogs 6-0 and 3-1, finishing with a 36-14 overall mark, along with going 11-1 in conference play.

Game one; it was all Madison College from the early going. The WolfPack opened up the first inning with three runs against South Suburban College starter Ryan Waaso.

Following Keith Browning grounding out to the pitcher, a play that scored Danny Krause, Dylan Detert and Luke Syens would come through with an RBI apiece. Detert singled to right to plate Brandon Gibis, while Syens doubled to center immediately afterward to allow Detert to cross the dish.

Meanwhile, Rex Morrow kept the Bulldogs at bay, allowing just four hits in the game. The Madison College offense would provide him more run support, though it was unnecessary, in the fifth.

Detert came through with two more RBI in the inning. His single to center brought home both Gibis and Sam Hurt. Dan Schmidt would later score on a passed ball, providing the final run in the 6-0 victory.

Morrow (5-2) got the win for the WolfPack. In seven innings, he struck out four and walked only two batters.

Game two, Schmidt took the mound for Madison College, fairing almost as well as Morrow before him. Schmidt gave up three hits and zero earned runs in four and two-thirds innings.

It was a good thing Schmidt was on, because the WolfPack offense would struggle during the back end of the doubleheader. The team collected just two hits in the game.

Madison College got their three runs in the game off a sac fly, a ground out and a walk. Sam Hurt scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the fourth, coming off a Brandon Gibis fielder's choice.

The WolfPack (36-14, 11-1) will open postseason play Saturday, May 10 in the NJCAA Region IV Sectional Tournament.
