Following a heartbreaking 8-7 defeat in 13 innings Wednesday evening, the Madison College baseball team now sits one loss away from being eliminated at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Okla. Today, the WolfPack will play Pasco-Hernando State College (Fla.) in a 3:30 p.m. semifinal.
The Conquistadors, who entered the tournament as Southeast District champions, won their opening game of the tournament last Sunday, defeating Mercer County Community College (N.J.) 3-2 in 10 innings. However, Pasco-Hernando State would then fall 9-4 to Hinds Community College (Miss.) Tuesday, the same team that handed Madison College their first World Series loss last night. The Conquistadors managed to stave off elimination in the early game yesterday, knocking out Mercer County Community College via a 13-3 mercy in five innings.
The WolfPack, which won their first two games in the World Series, has been led by
Dan Schmidt's six RBI and
Keith Browning's five runs scored.
Luke Yapp, who had four RBI in last night's loss, has five RBI for the tournament.
Brandon Gibis has added four runs scored.
Madison College headed down to Enid, Okla. as the third-ranked team in the country. Pasco-Hernando State College was unranked entering the World Series.
