WolfPack Softball splits a pair... Advances to Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team split a pair of games at the NJCAA Region IV Tournament today in Rockford, IL. In the first game, the WolfPack fell 12-4 in five innings to #1 seed, Rock Valley College. In their second game, they beat Harper College, 18-6, to advance to play College of DuPage at 10 AM on Saturday.

The WolfPack struggled out of the gate committing six errors and allowing at least one run in every inning before getting run-ruled in five innings by the #4 nationally ranked, Rock Valley College Golden Eagles. Paige Giese received the loss, scattering 15 hits and giving up five earned runs. Megan Hanke was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a home run. Madison College fell 12-4.

In the second game of the double-elimination region tournament, the WolfPack faced Harper College who had lost to College of DuPage in the first game of the day. After trailing 6-4 after three innings, Madison College put five runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning and never looked back. WolfPack bats added nine more runs over the final three innings while Bridget Jost did not allow a run. All-in-all Madison College accounted for 24 hits and won 18-6.

Bridget Jost received the win, pitching a complete game, striking out five, walking three and giving up just one earned run. Nicole Hoffmann was 5-for-6 with two RBIs while three other teammates had multiple RBI days including, Kasey Gutzmer (4-for-6, 6 RBIs) Paige Giese (3-for-6, 3 RBIs) and Hailey Simpson (2-for-4, 3 RBIs). Andrea Lawrence was also 4-for-6 and Karlie Ganzer and Brianna Wagner each went 2-for-4. The WolfPack improved their record to 22-22 and advance to play College of DuPage who lost to Rock Valley College in the final game of the day.

Madison College will play College of DuPage at 10 AM on Saturday for the right to play Rock Valley College in the NJCAA Region IV Championship game.
