Fischer propels WolfPack to important win

Box Score The Madison College baseball team has emerged victorious from their opening NJCAA Region IV Regional Tournament game, beating Prairie State College 2-0, thanks to the dominant pitching of Corey Fischer. Next, the top-seeded WolfPack will take on second seed Kankakee Community College at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Pioneers had a tough time figuring out Fischer in the tournament opener. The Madison College ace threw seven and two thirds innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing just four hits.

Offensively, the WolfPack struggled a little bit as well. The team finished the game with just three hits, but that's all they would need for the victory.

Madison College did all of their damage in the bottom of the fifth inning. With no score, Luke Syens hit a sac fly to score Dan Schmidt. The very next batter, Sam Hurt, would single to left on a hard hit ground ball, bringing in Luke Yapp for the team's second and final run of the game.

After Fischer left in the top of the eighth with a two-run lead and two out, Marcellus Sneed would close the door on Prairie State College. Sneed threw the final one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs to pick up the save.

Tomorrow, the WolfPack will square off with Kankakee Community College. In their last 13 meetings with the Cavaliers, Madison College has won nine games.
