Box Score The Madison College baseball team's postseason is off to a nice start. Saturday afternoon, the WolfPack used 15 hits and a big third inning, in which they scored all six of their runs, to beat Illinois Valley Community College 6-2.
Dan Schmidt started the scoring for the 'Pack, hitting a single toward second base to bring in
Danny Krause. Immediately afterward,
Dylan Detert singled into right to bring in
Keith Browning. Madison College's third run was brought in by the very next batter,
Luke Syens, as his single to left plated Schmidt.
Up 3-0 with just one out,
Courtney Watkins sac fly toward second allowed Detert to cross the dish, pushing the WolfPack lead to four.
Sam Hurt helped scored the final two runs, hitting a triple to left center to score
Luke Yapp and Syens.
Meanwhile,
Corey Fischer (7-1) was outstanding on the mound for Madison College. Fischer threw six innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five batters.
Nathan Hoffmann, who shut out the Eagles over the game's final three innings, picked up the save.
Madison College (37-14, 11-1) will host Sauk Valley Community College at 3 p.m. If the WolfPack wins, they will have to be beaten twice Sunday to be eliminated from the sectional tournament.
