Box Score Earlier this season, visiting Triton College, the Madison College baseball team swept the Trojans in a doubleheader. Tuesday, the WolfPack was looking to complete the season sweep of Triton, but the Trojans would steal the lead and the game late, winning 6-5.
Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Madison College saw their offense come on strong, scoring three runs in the inning. Following a single to left field by
Keith Browning, along with an ensuing Trojans error, both
Courtney Watkins and
Dan Schmidt would score to put the 'Pack up 3-1. The very next batter was
Luke Syens, who singled to right to bring in Browning.
Triton College would rally in the top of the seventh. There, the Trojans answered with their own three-run inning, tying the game at 4-4. They would continue that momentum in the eighth.
By the time the WolfPack would come up to bat in the bottom of the eighth, they trailed the Trojans by the score of 6-4. Watkins helped Madison College carve into the Triton lead with a single toward short, bringing
Sam Hurt in from third. However, it would be the last run scored by the WolfPack.
Madison College was shut out in their final frame, resulting in the 6-5 loss. The team finished with 12 hits and two errors on the day. Syens led the team offensively, garnering three hits in five appearances at the plate.
Dan Schmidt was charged with the loss for the WolfPack. Schmidt pitched two innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs.
The WolfPack (16-7, 4-1) will look to rebound tomorrow when they host the University of Wisconsin club team. First pitch is slated for 5:45 p.m.
