Box Score 2 It was a tale of two games Sunday for the Madison College baseball team. Visiting Blackhawk College-Moline for a doubleheader, the WolfPack won via mercy 10-0 in game one, and then fell via a 12-2 mercy in game two.
Game one, the 'Pack made short work of Blackhawk. Madison College never failed to score in any inning prior to the final out. The team got one run in the first and second inning, two in third, and three in both the fourth and fifth.
Dan Schmidt started the scoring for the WolfPack. His double in the first brought in
Courtney Watkins.
The Madison College lead would grow to 4-0 in the third, as
Mike Jordahl singled to center to score
Luke Syens. Then, in the top of the fourth, the 'Pack would pick up the pace even more.
Up 5-0, Syens tripled to right to plate
Luke Yapp. Immediately after,
Brandon Gibis doubled to center to allow Syens to score. Madison College would lead it 7-0 after four complete.
The finishing touches came in the fifth. Watkins would score on an error, followed by
Keith Browning and Schmidt.
Corey Fischer picked up the victory for the 'Pack. Fischer threw all five innings, allowing just two hits and zero earned runs.
Game two, Blackhawk came out a more determined team. The Braves would put eight runs on the board in the first five innings, while shutting out Madison College.
In the top of the sixth, the WolfPack would try to mount a rally. After
Joe Stubbe scored on a Blackhawk error,
Dylan Detert's single to second base brought home
Luke Yapp. The Braves lead was cut to 8-2.
However, Blackhawk would follow things up with a four-run inning in the sixth. Those runs resulted in the game ending via mercy, 12-2.
Kyle Krings took the loss for Madison College. Krings threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up four hits and four earned runs.
The loss ended a 10-game winning streak for the WolfPack.
Tuesday, Madison College (16-6, 4-0) will host conference foe Triton College beginning at 3 p.m. Madison College swept the Trojans in a doubleheader earlier this season, winning 5-2 and 2-0.
