WolfPack baseball collects another sweep, beats Rock Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Madison College baseball continues to be a team to watch in the NJCAA Division II ranks. Visiting conference rival Rock Valley College Saturday, it was business as usual for the WolfPack, as the team collected a two-game sweep, winning by scores of 10-2 and 10-9.

Game one, Madison College jumped out to an extremely quick lead. Luke Syens started the scoring in the first, hitting a single to center field to plate Courtney Watkins. The 'Pack would collect two more runs in the inning, with Keith Browning scoring on a passed ball and Syens coming home on a fielder's choice.

Leading 4-1 in the fifth, Madison College would find a way to get two more runs across the plate. Dylan Detert's sac fly got Brandon Gibis home, then Mike Jordahl's single to center scored Browning. The WolfPack would lead it 6-2 after five complete innings.

Following Browning's single to left in the sixth, which plated Watkins, Madison College would up their lead to 7-2. The game's final three runs would be scored in the seventh.

To secure the mercy, the WolfPack played small ball. Three straight singles would load the bases to start the inning. Shortly after, the team got runs eight, nine and 10 off of an error, a fielder's choice and a sac fly.

Marcellus Sneed got the win on the mound for the WolfPack. Sneed threw five innings, striking out eight and giving up just two earned runs.

Browning finished the game a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. He also accounted for two runs scored and one RBI.

Game two, a victory wouldn't come as easy for Madison College. In fact, the 'Pack would need a ninth inning run to finish the Golden Eagles off.

After surrendering the game's first run in the opening inning, Madison would score a combined five runs in the second and third. Grant Alderman's double in the second brought in both Dylan Detert and Matt Cole in the second. Then, in the third, the WolfPack saw a Syens single plate Watkins and a Luke Yapp single score Dan Schmidt and Syens.

Rock Valley would rally back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third to tie things at 5-5. However, Madison College would recapture the lead in the sixth. Browning came home on a Golden Eagles error and then Liam Kellogg touched home following a single by Sam Hurt.

Once again, the lead changed hands in the bottom of the inning. Rock Valley would rip the 'Pack for three more runs to go up 8-7.

Alderman would help the WolfPack even the score in the top of the seventh. His single to score Gibis evened things back up at 8-8.

Even at 9-9 in the ninth, Joe Stubbe came through in a big way for Madison College. Stubbe's single to center helped bring in the game's winning run in the form of Gibis.

Nathan Hoffman grabbed the game two victory on the mound for Madison College. Hoffman threw four innings, struck out four and surrendered three earned runs.

The WolfPack (15-5, 4-0) has now won nine straight games. They will look to up that streak tomorrow when they visit Black Hawk College-Moline for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
