WolfPack baseball pushes past Prairie State late

Box Score The Madison College baseball team surged ahead early and closed the door late, playing at Prairie State College Tuesday. However, the WolfPack did what they needed to do to get a 6-4 win over the Pioneers.

Matt Cole started the scoring for the 'Pack in the second. His triple to right brought in Luke Syens and Joe Stubbe, putting Madison College up 2-0. Pete Hofman would provide the team's third run in the inning, hitting a fielder's choice to first to score Cole.

The WolfPack would carry their 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth, but there Prairie State College would rally back. The Pioneers got three runs on four hits to tie the game at 3-3.

Still tied 3-3 in the seventh, Prairie State would hand the lead back to Madison College. A Pioneers error would result in both Brandon Gibis and Danny Krause scoring on the same play, putting the WolfPack back up 5-3.

Two batters later, a sac fly by Dan Schmidt plated Keith Browning, giving Madison College the 6-3 lead. With Prairie State only able to muster up one more run in the bottom of the inning, the WolfPack would hold on for the 6-4 victory.

Rex Morrow (4-2) picked up the win for the 'Pack. Morrow threw six innings, striking out five, while giving up six hits and three earned runs.

The outing was supposed to be a doubleheader, but game two was canceled due to rain.
