WolfPack baseball still unbeaten in conference, sweeps Milwaukee

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team remains unblemished in North Central Community College Conference (N4C) play. Hosting Milwaukee Area Technical College Saturday, the WolfPack defeated the Stormers by scores of 5-2 and 7-6.

Game one, Milwaukee would get on the board first, scoring a single run in the game's opening frame. However, it wouldn't take long for Madison College to respond. The team scored one run in both the second and third inning to take the 2-1 lead.

Matt Cole provided the first scoring punch for the 'Pack. His double in the second brought home Dylan Detert. Then, in the third, Luke Yapp hit a sac fly to bring in Keith Browning and give Madison College their first lead of the game.

The Stormers would even things up in the fourth, getting a run off a WolfPack error. The run would prove to be Milwaukee's last though.

Tied at two in the bottom of the fourth, Madison College regained its lead on a Brandon Gibis single toward short which scored Joe Stubbe. The WolfPack's final two runs would be scored in the sixth.

A Browning double to right would plate two members of the 'Pack in Pete Hofman and Gibis. Madison College would hold on from there, grabbing the 5-2 victory.

Marcellus Sneed was credited with the win for the WolfPack. Sneed threw six innings, giving up just three hits and one earned run, while striking out four. Gibis picked up a save.

Game two, Madison College got off to a big lead early, but the Stormers would make it close late. The 'Pack would plate the game's first five runs in the opening three innings.

With neither team on the board yet in the second inning, Madison College came up big. The WolfPack scored three runs to take the early lead. Liam Kellogg singled to left to score Luke Yapp, while two batters later Keith Browning's single brought in Mike Jordahl and Courtney Watkins.

Madison College would add two more runs in the third. Watkins drove in Dan Schmidt with a single to right to push the WolfPack lead to 4-0. Then, Pete Hofman would take one for the team, getting hit by a pitch to score Luke Yapp.

It was 5-1 Madison College entering the sixth, but then Milwaukee would storm back. The Stormers scored five runs in the frame to take a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the inning.

Fortunately, the WolfPack would answer back, getting two runs to recapture the lead. Following a Luke Yapp single to right which brought in Luke Syens, Courtney Watkins would drive in what would prove to be the game-winning run. Watkins hit a hard ground ball to center for a single which scored Yapp.

Ryne Blanton, who closed out the game for the WolfPack, picked up the victory on the mound. Blanton threw one and one-third innings, allowing just a single hit.

With the sweep, Madison College improves to 31-13 overall on the season, 10-0 in conference play.
