Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Friday, it was about as even as baseball can get. A pair of one-run games resulted in Madison College splitting their doubleheader at McHenry County College, after both teams had 11 hits in game one and eight hits in game two.
Game one, the WolfPack would get on the board early, as
Dylan Detert provided an RBI single in the first to score
Keith Browning.
Tied 1-1 in the second,
Pete Hofman would help Madison College regain the lead. Hofman's sac fly to right brought in
Matt Cole to make it 2-1 'Pack.
The Scots stole the lead in the bottom of the second, putting up two runs to surge ahead 3-2. However, it wouldn't last long, as
Luke Syens blasted a three-run home run to right, putting the WolfPack back up 5-3.
Once again, McHenry County College would rally back. Doubles by Pat Murphy in the fourth and sixth innings would help the Scots even things back up at 5-5.
All of the action to that point only added to the excitement later. Still tied at five in the ninth, a wild pitch by Austin Padjen allowed
Brandon Gibis to race home, providing what would be the game winning run.
Gibis would then help Madison College slam the door shut on the Scots. He threw the game's final two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs in that time. It was the first win on the mound for Gibis this season.
Game two, McHenry County raced out to a 5-1 lead after four innings. The WolfPack would correct that in the fifth though. Madison College collected four runs on five hits to tie things up at 5-5.
Brandon Gibis singled to right to score
Pete Hofman. Then, following a fly out and ground out to score a pair of runs,
Luke Yapp tied the game with a double to center which brought in
Dan Schmidt.
Unfortunately, the big inning proved to be all for naught. Still tied at 5-5 in the seventh, Tyler Mindak hit a walk-off single to center to score Nick Samuels.
Peter Sommerfeld (0-1) was charged with the loss. Sommerfeld threw one and one-third innings, giving up two hits and one run.
Madison College (29-13, 8-0) will host conference rival Milwaukee Area Technical College in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is set for noon. The WolfPack has yet to lose a conference game so far this season.
