Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team is yet to lose in North Central Community College Conference (N4C) play. Saturday, after scoring a combined 15 runs, the WolfPack swept College of DuPage 8-7 and 7-1.
Game one, the 'Pack got some early help from the Chaparrals. Madison College scored five runs in the opening frame, with four of those unearned thanks to three College of DuPage errors.
Matt Cole would help the WolfPack add to their lead in the second. Up 5-0, Cole doubled to right field to score
Keith Browning.
With the score still 6-0 Madison College in the sixth, the Chaparrals would fight back. The College of DuPage picked up four runs on three hits and one error, cutting the WolfPack lead to 6-4.
Fortunately, for Madison College, Cole would come through for the team once more. A single to right by Cole resulted in
Dylan Detert and Browning crossing the plate, which would push the 'Pack's lead up to four runs. As it turned out, Madison College would need every one of those runs to hold on for the win.
Trailing 8-4 in the seventh, the Chaparrals would make one more push for a victory. The College of DuPage got three runs on two hits, but came up one run short, falling to the 'Pack 8-7.
Dan Schmidt (4-2) notched the win for the WolfPack. Schmidt threw six innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs, while striking out six batters.
Game two, things weren't nearly as close. Once again, the Madison College offense produced a five run inning, only this time it was in the fourth. With the game tied at one, the WolfPack would use three hits to eventually take a 6-1 lead.
Courtney Watkins broke the 1-1 tie with a single to left to score
Luke Yapp and
Dylan Detert.
Pete Hofman and
Keith Browning would each add a single as well, helping to score
Matt Cole and Watkins, respectively.
Leading 6-1, Watkins would help the WolfPack add one more run in the fifth. His single to right brought in the game's final run in the form of
Dan Schmidt.
Westin Wuethrich (1-0) got his first victory of the season for the 'Pack. Wuethrich threw six innings, striking out seven and giving up just two hits.
