WolfPack baseball team mercies Morton College twice

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Morton College was no match for the Madison College baseball team Friday. The WolfPack mercied the Panthers in back-to-back games, winning by scores of 11-1 and 15-5.

Game one, Madison College was incredibly efficient,  scoring their 11 runs off 10 hits. The team put up five runs alone in the opening frame.

Scoring started when a Matt Cole fielder's choice to third resulted in Dylan Detert touching home. Dan Schmidt then scored on an error by Morton catcher Christian Martinez on the same play, while Keith Browning was thrown out at home.

The Panthers continued to hurt themselves in the first. Following an RBI single to right by Luke Syens, Joe Stubbe would reach first on another Morton error, allowing Syens to score. Stubbe would eventually come home on a wild pitch.

Leading 6-0 in the fourth, the WolfPack would put up four more runs in the inning. Stubbe and Keith Browning each doubled to left field, resulting in three RBI. Sam Hurt added an additional run, scoring after another Panthers error.

Morton College put itself away in the fifth. Trailing 10-1, the Panthers saw a passed ball allow Browning to touch the plate, providing Madison College with the 10-run mercy.

Nathan Hoffmann (2-1) got the win for the WolfPack. Hoffmann threw all five innings, struck out eight, and gave up just three hits and zero earned runs.

Game two, it would take Madison College six innings to put away the Panthers. The 'Pack allowed four Morton runs in the opening three innings, but scored six themselves during that time frame.

Heading into the bottom of the fourth leading 6-4, a WolfPack offensive surge, along with more Morton mistakes, helped Madison College put the game out of reach. Liam Kellogg doubled to left to bring in Mike Jordahl and Luke Yapp. Kellogg would later score on a Panthers error.

With their lead up to 9-4 in the fourth, Danny Krause would score on a passed ball. Shortly after, Dan Schmidt ripped a single to center to score Brandon Gibis.

The WolfPack would put the Panthers away in the sixth, adding four more runs. Dylan Detert and Mike Jordahl each had RBI singles in the inning, while another passed ball and error resulted in two more Madison College runs.

Dominick Golubiewski (4-0) was credited with the win. Golubiewski threw four innings, struck out eight, and gave up just two hits and three earned runs.
