Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team split their doubleheader with conference rival Rock Valley College Thursday. Hosting the Golden Eagles, the WolfPack was ripped in game one 13-2, but then grabbed a 4-2 victory in game two.
Game one, Rock Valley had their way with Madison College. The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth and six in the sixth, prior to the mercy rule taking into effect.
The only two runs for Madison College came off singles in the third and fifth by
Megan Hanke and
Andrea Lawrence, respectively.
Bridge Jost (5-5) took the loss for the WolfPack. Jost threw five and one-third innings, striking out seven, while giving up eight hits and four earned runs. Madison College finished the game with four errors defensively.
Game two; it was the WolfPack taking the early lead. Following
Megan Hanke scoring off a Rock Valley College error,
Kasey Gutzmer would single to left to bring in
Paige Giese, resulting in a 2-0 first inning lead for Madison College.
The 'Pack would add two more runs in the sixth.
Nicole Hoffmann's single to center would help plate
Casey Beckwith and Giese, giving Madison College the 4-0 lead.
It was a good thing that the WolfPack would add those runs in the sixth, because the Golden Eagles put up two runs of their own in the seventh. Fortunately, it wasn't enough, with Madison College holding on for the 4-2 victory.
Paige Giese (5-4) was credited with the win. Giese threw all seven innings, giving up eight hits and one earned run.
The same two teams will play again tomorrow, with Madison College visiting Rock Valley College. First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
