WolfPack softball sweeps conference foe Joliet

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team got their third conference win in the last four tries Wednesday, sweeping Joliet Junior College in a doubleheader. The WolfPack won by scores of 9-4 and 5-2.

Game one, trailing 2-1 in the fourth, the 'Pack would blow things wide open, producing a four-run inning. The team would take the lead on an Andrea Lawrence single to second, which scored Brianna Wagner. Up 3-2, Hailey Simpson came home on an error by the Wolves, and immediately afterwards a Paige Giese fielder's choice to short would bring in Lawrence.

The 'Pack would push their lead to 7-2 in the sixth, as a Wagner double to center would plate Nicole Hoffmann. The hit was one of nine on the day for Madison College.

Two more runs would come to the plate for the 'Pack in the seventh. A passed ball allowed Hailey Simpson an easy trip home, with Lawrence scoring on the play as well.

Paige Weber picked up the win for the WolfPack. Weber thre five and one-third innings, giving up four earned runs while striking out six.

Game two, Madison College would jump out to an early lead. The WolfPack scored all five of their runs in the first four innings, while blanking Joliet during that stretch.

Paige Giese opened the scoring in the first, hitting a single to left to score Andrea Lawrence. Madison College would add two more runs in the second off the bat of Hailey Simpson. Simpson's double to center brought in Kasey Gutzmer Brianna Wagner.

From there it was smooth sailing for the WolfPack. The team added a run in both the third and fourth, and wouldn't allow a Wolves run until the fifth.

Paige Giese got credited with the win for Madison College. Giese threw all seven innings, giving up seven hits and one earned run.

Madison College (14-16, 5-5) will host Rock Valley College in a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
