Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team made quick work of Highland Community College Wednesday. The WolfPack swept the Cougars, blanking Highland in back-to-back games, winning 8-0 and 10-0.
Game one, Madison picked up five runs in the first four innings. Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third,
Dylan Detert tripled to right to score
Luke Yapp.
Joe Stubbe then added to the three-run lead with a sac fly to plate Detert.
Up four in the fourth, a
Dan Schmidt single to right would plate
Brandon Gibis. The team would then carry that 5-0 lead into the sixth, where they scored their final three runs of the game.
In the sixth,
Courtney Watkins would help score a pair of runs with a double to right, pushing the 'Pack lead to 7-0. Three batters later,
Joe Stubbe reached on a fielder's choice, with Watkins coming home to account for the final run.
Calen Rohrman was credited with the win for the WolfPack. Rohrmar threw five innings, allowing seven hits and striking out five.
Game two, Madison College made short work of the Cougars to pick up the doubleheader sweep. The team mercied Highland 10-0 in just five innings. In the second inning alone, the WolfPack would score seven runs.
Following a wild pitch, a sac fly and an error, which accounted for Madison's first three runs,
Keith Browning would score both
Joe Stubbe and
Courtney Watkins on a single towards second base.
Dylan Detert would then triple to right to let
Danny Krause and Browning cross the dish.
Carrying their 7-0 lead into the fourth inning, the 'Pack would put the Cougars away by scoring their final three runs.
Matt Cole's single to left brought in Browning, while Stubbe walked to score Detert. The tenth and final run was scored by Gibis, who tagged up at third and ran home, following a fly out by Watkins to first.
Marcellus Sneed picked up the win on the mound for the 'Pack. Sneed threw all five innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven.
Madison College (21-9, 6-0) will next travel to Waubonsee Community College for a Thursday doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. The team is 13-7 on the road this season.
