Game two in Skyway Challenge good to WolfPack

Box Score They rebounded nicely from their 2-1 loss against Moraine Valley earlier this afternoon. The Madison College baseball team, competing against Prairie State College in game two of the Skyway Challenge Tournament, picked up a 7-1 win over the Pioneers.

The WolfPack offense went off in the opening frame, scoring five runs against Prairie State. The 5-0 lead after half an inning would eventually prove to be all the 'Pack would need.

Nicole Hoffman started the scoring with a single to center to bring in Andrea Lawrence. Shortly after, a passed ball allowed Kasey Gutzmer to touch home.

Leading 2-0, Julie Austin ripped a double to center to score a pair in the form of Hoffmann and Paige Giese. Austin then stole home to push the Madison College lead to 5-0.

The Pioneers scored their lone run in the third, as Amber Buss scored off a WolfPack error. However, Madison College responded immediately, adding two more runs in the top of the fourth. Paige Giese's single toward second base allowed Gutzmer to cross the dish for the second time on the day.

Paige Weber (3-6) got credit for the 7-1 win. Weber threw all seven innings, struck out four, and gave up just four hits and the one unearned run.

Madison College will close out the Skyway Challenge Tournament tomorrow when they play Carl Sandburg College at noon.
