WolfPack softball drops Skyway Challenge opener

Box Score The Madison College softball team didn't get out to the start they would've liked in the Skyway Challenge Tournament. Taking on Moraine Valley Community College, the WolfPack fell short of a win by one run, losing 2-1.

With neither team on the board after three and a half innings, the Cyclones finally took a 1-0 lead. Amie Raynor crushed a solo home run to center field to give Moraine Valley the momentum.

The 'Pack would respond in the fifth. A Kasey Gutzmer rip to right for a double easily scored Andrea Lawrence, as Madison College tied the game at 1-1.

Scheduled for seven innings, the two teams would need to play extras, heading to the eighth still tied at one. Unfortunately, one small WolfPack mistake would cost Madison College the game. A passed ball allowed Carly Trinley an easy trip home, securing the 2-1 victory for the Cyclones.

Bridget Jost (3-4) took the loss for Madison College. Jost threw seven and one-third innings, striking out nine, while allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Madison College will play one more game this afternoon. The WolfPack is set to square off with Prairie State College at 2:05 p.m.
