Box Score 2 For the second time in just four days, the Madison College softball team has split with conference rival Harper College. This time, however, the WolfPack won game one 3-1, before falling 8-3.
Game one, the 'Pack provided all the offensive punch the needed in the first three innings. First,
Brianna Wagner reached on an error by the Hawks in the second, a play which allowed both
Nicole Hoffmann and
Karlie Ganzer to come home. Then, in the third inning, Ganzer singled to center bringing in
Kasey Gutzmer.
Defensively, one Madison College error allowed Harper their only run of the game. Sam Cummings not only reached base on the error, but also rounded every base on the same play to provide the Hawks with their lone run.
Bridget Jost (3-3) picked up the win for the WolfPack. Jost threw seven strong innings, striking out six batters, while allowing just five hits and zero earned runs.
Game two, Madison College would take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. However, it wouldn't be enough to capture the victory.
Tied 1-1 in the fourth, a
Hailey Simpson triple to left scored
Michelle Francois and
Nicole Hoffmann. The runs were the only two earned by the WolfPack all game.
Harper would eventually explode in the bottom of the sixth. The Hawks ripped the 'Pack for seven total runs in the inning.
From there, Madison College didn't have enough time to mount a comeback. The final score after seven innings read 8-3.
Paige Weber (2-6) took the loss for the 'Pack. Weber pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up five hits and eight runs. However, only one of the runs Weber gave up was earned by the Hawks.
