WolfPack men almost upset Harper College Hawks

Box Score The Madison College men's basketball team may have lost their regular-season finale Friday, but their tightly contested matchup with Harper College shows how much they've improved in a little more than three weeks. The WolfPack played the Hawks within five points, losing 84-79, after falling by 30 at Harper earlier this season.

Both teams knocked down 17 field goals in the opening half, but the Hawks made four more three-point baskets and one more free throw than the 'Pack. The result was a five point lead for Harper at the break, 43-38.

The second half was played to a stalemate, with each team tallying 41 points in the game's final 20 minutes.

Madison College outscored the Hawks in the paint 38-32, and in points off turnovers 16-10, but the Hawks toughness down the stretch helped them to the victory. Kevin Walsh, despite missing most of the first half due to foul trouble, finished with a team-high tying 18 points for Harper.

Sophomore forward Brandon Holz led all scorers, finishing with 20 points and 13 rebounds for Madison College. Dan Jones, logging 21 minutes of work off the bench, added 19 points. Shane Kanaman and Tanner Schieve tallied 12 and 11, respectively.

The WolfPack (4-24, 1-13) will host Mid Michigan Community College in a playoff play-in game Tuesday evening. Tipoff time against the Lakers is set for 7:30 p.m.
