The Madison College Athletics Department is announcing Malik Wildermuth as the next head men's basketball coach ahead of the 2026-27 season. Wildermuth becomes the 12th head coach in program history. In addition, he will also serve as the game management and employee coordinator within the athletics department.

Wildermuth spent the past four years as the head assistant men's basketball coach at NCAA Division III Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He helped the Vikings to back-to-back CCIW conference tournament appearances. Wildermuth served as the program's recruiting coordinator, while also fulfilling additional college roles as facility and events manger, health and physical education instructor, career coach and advisor, and admissions counselor. During his time at Augustana College, Wildermuth also served as an AAU coach for Midwest Prospect Academy and as a private basketball player skill development coach for the past five years in the Peoria, Illinois, and Quad Cities areas. 

"I am incredibly excited to welcome Malik to the WolfPack family," said Director of Athletics Jason Verhelst. "Malik is an impressive young coach with the skill set needed to guide our student-athletes toward success in basketball, academics, and life."

Wildermuth's coaching career included stops as the interim head women's basketball and assistant men's basketball coach at Marshalltown Community College in 2021-22, and assistant coaching stints at NCAA Division III Illinois College (Jacksonville, IL) and Millikin University (Decatur, IL) for a total of three years.

As a player, Wildermuth played on season at El Camino College in Torrance, California, before transferring to Carl Sandburg College. He completed his playing career with two years at NCAA Division III Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he earned Second Team All-IIAC, was named the team's defensive MVP twice, and helped the Dutch to conference runner-up finishes in back-to-back seasons. Wildermuch averaged 15.4 points per game, while also leading the team in rebounding (4.9 per game) and assists (3.1 per game). 

Wildermuth boasts an Associate's Degree from Carl Sandburg College ('16), a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Central College ('18), and a Master's in Education from Grand Canyon University ('22). Wildermuth is a native of Normal, Illinois, and a graduate of University High School. As a prep athlete, he was named Pantagraph Second Team All-Area and All-Corn Belt Conference.

The WolfPack are scheduled to begin the 2026-27 season on November 3 with a road game at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa, with the home opener to follow on November 5 against Anoka-Ramsey Community College inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium.
