Box Score The Madison College women's basketball team is cruising. Saturday, the WolfPack improved to 4-0 in conferene play, after forcing 45 Wilbur Wright College turnovers, in what was a one-sided 95-23 victory.
"We're all getting hands on the ball, touches on the ball, steals, layups," said head coach
Jessica Pelzel. "We've got a variety of people scoring, it's never just one person."
Six players were able to score in double figures for Madison College, with
Meagan Mazur leading the way with 18, as the 'Pack poured in 58 points off of Rams' mistakes.
Kelly Calhoun and
Chelsey Schulenburg each added 15 points, while
Ellyn Hayden,
Bri Hicks and Nicole Hoffman tallied 12, 11 and 11, respectively.
"A lot of different people can score," said freshman guard
Kelly Calhoun, when asked about where Madison College holds an advantage over their opponents. "They have to shut down a lot of different people, they can't just focus in on one girl."
At the halftime break, Madison College held a 55-10 lead over Wilbur Wright. As a team, the WolfPack shot the ball at a 43 percent clip.
Nothing changed in the second, as it was all WolfPack once more. Madison College made 47 percent of their shots in the game's final 20 minutes.
The WolfPack (12-5, 4-0) will get a huge step up in competition Wednesday. Madison College is set to host top seeded, and defending national champion, Rock Valley College at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m.
"Defensively is where it's gonna be at there too," said Pelzel. "They're very, very athletic. They're not as big as they've been in the past, but athletically they're at the top in the nation."
