Jessica Pelzel started as the Madison College head women’s basketball coach in the 2006-07 season and is entering her eighth season at the helm. After seven seasons, Pelzel has already compiled an impressive 141-72 record for a .661 winning percentage. During the 2009-10 season, coach Pelzel led her team to a 31-3 overall record, winning the North Central Community College Conference title and placing her team in the national tournament for the third-straight year. The Women's Basketball team went on to win the NJCAA Division III national championship for the first time in the program's 33-year history. Besides the 2009-10 NJCAA DIII Championship, Pelzel has been named a two-time WJCAA Coach of the Year and two-time NJCAA Region XIII Coach of the Year.
Pelzel served as an assistant basketball coach at the College of St. Benedict (St. Joseph, MN) for the two years prior to coming to Madison College. While at St. Benedict, she served as a full-time instructor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sport Science (HPERSS) at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) - where she also earned her Master’s of Science degree. Prior to St. Benedict, Pelzel held a graduate assistant position with the SCSU Women’s Basketball team for one year, and was a two-year graduate teaching assistant in the HPERSS department.
Pelzel was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team at Southwest Minnesota State University (Marshall, MN), where she was a three-time team captain and was selected defensive player-of-the-year her senior season. She is also a current member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has coached numerous Minnesota AAU teams over the past 10 years.
In addition to her coaching duties, Pelzel is also a full-time physical education instructor at Madison College.
