WolfPack Softball Loses Playoff Game to the College of DuPage, Ends Season

Box Score Like they say, all good things must come to end. The Madison College softball season ended rather abruptly, but not after a successful season on the diamond that saw the team put together 15 wins against 20 losses.  On Sunday, May 5 the Madison College team lost to the College of DuPage Chaparrals 1-13 in five innings in the NJCAA Region IV Tournament in Madison, WI. The 15-20 WolfPack finished 7-11 in the N4C conference and third in Region IV by defeating the Joliet Junior College Wolves 11-3 the previous day.

In the game against the Colege of DuPage Chaparrals, Madison College, the visitors on the scoreboard even though they were playing at home, got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. Jordan Bell plated Michelle Farino who had reached on an error, and the WolfPack looked like they were going to make a game out of it. Unfortunately the College of DuPage had other ideas as they scored 11 unanswered runs, including five runs in the bottom of the first, and four runs in the third inning. The hard hitting DuPage team came into the game ranked fourth in the nation and finished second in the N4C with a 16-4 record. The Chaparrals belted out 13 hits, including three doubles, and were aided by five WolfPack errors, while DuPage's starting pitcher tossed a great game and limited the 'Pack to just three hits in five innings of work.

Besides Jordan Bell's RBI single in the first inning, Marissa Shaner and Megan Hanke picked up the other two hits for the WolfPack.

Samantha Schuchardt started for the WolfPack and was touched up for 10 runs (2 earned) on 11 hits in two and a third innings in her first game back since being hit on the knee with a line drive comebacker to the mound over two weeks ago.  Schuchardt was credited with the loss in her short outing and was relieved by Paige Weber. Weber allowed two hits in an inning and two thirds while only allowing one unearned run. Neither WolfPack recorded a strikeout in what turned out to be the WolfPack's final game of the 2013.
