Box Score The Madison College started off on a sour note as they were blanked 9-0 by the #1 seeded Rock Valley Golden Eagles at 12:00 PM in their opener of the NJCAA Region IV tournament in Madison on Saturday, May 4.
Facing the top seeded Golden Eagles in the tournament opener wasn't the best way to start the day, as Rock Valley scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second, and one in the fourth for the abbreviated win in five innings. Not only were the Golden Eagles the top seeded team in the tournament, they ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA DIII softball poll and were winners of the N4C conference with a 17-3 record (31-10 overall).
Heather Edgren's fifth inning single proved to be the WolfPack's lone hit, compared to Rock Valley's nine hits, including six extra base hits.
All-Tournament member Amanda Blankenship started for Rock Valley and picked up the win, while Madison starter
Paige Weber was roughed up in her one inning of work before being replaced by
Marissa Shaner. Weber allowed six hits and eight earned runs, and Shaner threw that last three innings, giving up three hits and one earned run. Weber struckout two and Shaner recorded three strike outs.
Next up for the 'Pack is their second game of the Region IV Tournament against the Joliet Junior College Wolves. The game will start at approximately 2:00 PM.
