Madison College Beats #1 Ranked LSU-Eunice, Will Face Them Again

Box Score Madison College used their bats and strong pitching from starter Nathan Hoffmann and reliever Corey Fischer to hand last year's champions and currently #1 ranked LSU-Eunice their first loss of the 2013 NJCAA Division II World Series. The 8-2 win sets up another showdown with LSU-Eunice tomorrow at 7:00 PM.
 
LSU-Eunice got on the scoreboard first when their rightfielder hit a solo homerun to left field in the top of the second.  In the bottom half of the inning, the WolfPack answered with three runs of their own. Pollock scored first on a balk then Greg Rhude's sacrifice fly drove in Dan SchmidtDanny Krause then singled to left center scoring Taylor Carlson.  The WolfPack then added another run on a Danny Krause RBI single and picked up two more runs in the sixth.  The Tigers added another run in the seventh before Ryan McShane hit a two-run homerun over the left field wall.
 
Nick Hoffmann pitched seven innings, striking out two, scattering nine hits and allowing just two earned runs while facing 29 batters. Corey Fischer came in relief in the eighth inning and pitched out of a jam in that eighth inning, striking out two in the inning.  Fischer would strike out three over his two innings of work while not allowing a hit or earned run.
 
Every WolfPack starter had a hit in the game. Danny Krause and Ryan McShane each had three RBIs to go with their two hits while teammate Taylor Carlson was 2-for-4. Greg Rhude had a double and an RBI, as well.
 
With the 8-2 win, Madison College was one of three teams remaining in the tournament.  A coin flip determined who received the bye into the championship game on Saturday. Madison College lost the coin toss so they will play LSU-Eunice again tomorrow at 7:00 PM for the right to play Murray State College in the championship game on Saturday.
