Softball Punches Ticket to Region IV Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Led by dominating pitching and timely offense, the WolfPack defeated the Harper College Hawks 10-3 and 13-1 to win the NJCAA Region IV Tournament Play-In Game Series, and advance to the NJCAA Region IV Tournament that starts on Saturday, May 4. Madison College will be hosting the NJCAA Region IV Tournament, and all games will be played at the Softball Complex in Madison, WI. Madison College will play the tournament's top seeded Rock Valley College Golden Eagles on Saturday at 12:00 PM.

In the 10-3 win in game one, the 'Pack fell behind early 0-2 before they got the sticks going. Madison scored three runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, and five in the sixth inning to cruise to the 10-3 win. Jordan Bell paced the offense with two hits in four at bats, and added four RBI. Bell also swiped two bags, and the team recorded eight steals. Brianna Wagner also recorded two hits as she went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.  Andrea Lawrence, who stole two bases, scored two runs and drove in another, and Michelle Farino scored two runs, drove in two more, stole a base, and added the lone extra base hit with her sixth inning double.

Waterloo, WI native Marissa Shaner pitched seven solid innings, scattering eight hits and only giving up three runs (2 earned).  She also struck out a season-high 13 Harper batters in the 10-3 win.

In game two, Madison's 13-1 win, the WolfPack improved to 14-18 as they defeated the Hawks in five innings with a dominating pitching effort from Paige Weber and an offense that belted out 10 hits on their way to scoring 13 runs. Michelle Farino, Jordan Bell, and Marissa Shaner each recorded two hits each, and the 'Pack recorded two extra base hits. Besides her two hits, Bell ripped a triple, recorded two RBI, and scored three times. Marissa Shaner and Megan Hanke both joined Bell with two RBI and Andrea Lawrence and Michelle Farino scored twice. Hailey Hovland recorded the 'Pack's double and Madison was hit by pitches five times, led by Megan Hanke's two.

Starter Paige Weber went the distance in five innings and struckout five while allowing one run on three hits. She improved to 3-3 on the year.

The 14-18 Madison College softball team has a short break before hosting the NJCAA Region IV Tournament that starts on May 4.
