Madison College Baseball Continues to Roll Through World Series

Box Score WolfPack Baseball continues to roll through the 2013 NJCAA Division II World Series with a 10-2 seven-inning run rule victory over Scottsdale Community College.  The #5 ranked WolfPack jumped out to an early lead over #4 ranked Scottsdale and never looked back.

Madison College's win was again fueled by a fast start in which the WolfPack scored five runs over the first two innings.  The WolfPack would add another run in the fourth inning before Scottsdale finally got on the scoreboard with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth.  With the score 6-1, heading in the top of the sixth, the WolfPack bats exploded for four additional runs to put the game out of reach.  The Artichokes added another run in the sixth but that is as close as they got and the game was called on run rule in the seventh.

All in all, five WolfPack players tallied multiple hits and three players had two or more RBIs.  Ryan McShane led all players with three RBIs as he went 2-for-5.  Danny Krause and Nathan Pollock were each 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Dan Schmidt and Greg Rhude were also 2-for-4 with Schmidt adding an RBI.  Bryce Barsness hit a two-out triple in the top of the fourth and both Greg Rhude and Nathan Pollock had doubles in the game.

With great offensive backing, Zach Ransom, a second year lefthander from Madison Memorial H.S., pitched five innings, scattering six hits, surrendering one earned run and posting five strikeouts. The one earned run came in the sixth inning when Scottsdale's Sam Rector hit a solo home run to left field.  After that run, Calen Rohrman came in for relief and pitched two innings of shutout baseball while giving up just two hits and throwing 22 out of 32 pitches as strikes.

With their third straight victory in as many days the WolfPack earned a day off on Wednesday before facing today's tonight's winner between #1 ranked LSU-Eunice (LA) and #3 ranked Heartland Community College (IL) at 7:00 PM on Thursday.
