Box Score Madison College won their elimination game on Sunday against Brunswick Community College, 6-0, with help from lefthander
Dan Schmidt's five hit shutout and nine hits from WolfPack bats.
Dan Schmidt pitched a gem on Sunday keeping the Dolphins off the scoreboard. Schmidt was efficient, forcing 15 groundouts, striking out two batters and throwing 66 strikes in his 98 pitches for the game. Brunswick managed just five hits and only one extra base hit in nine innings. The defensive behind Schmidt helped as well as they did not commit an error and forced three double-plays.
The Madison College offense came alive. After posting just two hits in their previous World Series game the WolfPack belted out nine hits on Sunday night.
Danny Krause led all WolfPack hitters going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Second year teammate,
Nathan Pollock, continued his good hitting, going 2-for-4 with a double.
Bryce Barsness posted 2 RBIs on a second inning single and Madison College had five stolen bases.
The majority of the damage was done in the four-run second inning. Pollock started the inning with a double and scored on a balk. Then, with two outs and two men on,
Danny Krause hit a single to left that scored
Taylor Carlson. Barsness then singled in
Greg Rhude and
Danny Krause.
The WolfPack added additional runs in back-to-back innings in the fifth and sixth. Pollock scored in the fifth on an error by the third baseman and
Ryan McShane drove in
Danny Krause in the sixth.
With the win, the WolfPack advance to play Grand Rapids Community College at 3:30 PM on Monday. Grand Rapids Community College is coming off a 6-2 win yesterday over Lackawanna College (PA).
