Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team won their fifth straight game by defeating Black Hawk College-Moline 3-2 in the opener of their April 7 doubleheader in Madison, before the WolfPack dropped their last game 2-5.
Black Hawk took the early lead with a run in the top half of the third inning, before the WolfPack took the lead back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The team held on for the win behind starter
Shane Adler, as Black Hawk scored one run in the fifth, and
Jameson Sadowske slammed the door on the visitors in the final two innings.
Danny Krause recorded a team leading three hits in four at bats, and
Evan Richarz added two hits in the one run win.
David Luciani led the team with two RBI on his third inning double, and
Dan Schmidt followed it up with a RBI sacrifice fly for the 'Pack's third run. Other than his sacrifice fly, Schmidt recorded a double and Richarz stole the WolfPack's lone base.
Starter
Shane Adler pitched five and a third innings in picking up his second win of the year, and
Jameson Sadowske finished off the game for his first save of 2013.
In the 5-2 loss in the second game, Madison College just could not get the offense going after scoring two runs in the first two innings, and Black Hawk tied the game at 2-2 after the fourth inning, before they grabbed the 6-3 lead and held on for the win with three runs in the sixth inning.
Bryce Basness,
Nathan Pollock,
Dan Schmidt, and
Joe Stubbe all recorded one hit apiece, Schmidt recorded the lone RBI, and McShane and Stubbe scored the two WolfPack runs. Oddly enough, out of the four WolfPack hits, three were doubles as Pollock, Schmidt, and Stubbe all added two-baggers. Barsness recorded a steal in the loss.
Cody Peterson was once again the recipient of some bad luck and relatively poor team defense as the WolfPack committed three errors. In five and a third innings, Peterson allowed eight hits in four runs, but only one of the runs was earned. On the positive side for Peterson, he was able to stike out three Black Hawk batters. Releiver
Rex Morrow took over for Peterson and threw one and two third innings, giving uo one unearned run whilke striking out one.
The WolfPack is back at it tomorrow as the host the Morton College Panthers in a nine inning game on April 8. The game at Robin Roberts Field starts at 3:30 PM.
