Baseball Sweeps Triton College in N4C Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team kept up their winning ways on April 6 in River Grove, IL as they picked up two N4C conference wins 5-4 and 11-1. The wins extended the 'Packs win streak to four games.

In game one, Madison College out hit the Trojans nine to seven, but the two squads were evenly matched throughout the game and the contest went to extra innings. The WolfPack scored solo runs in the third and sixth innings, before Triton took a 4-2 lead with four runs in the seventh. Playing as the home team, Madison College had the final at bats and they took advantage of them by scoring two runs to tie the game at 4-4. Finally, after a scoreless eighth inning for both teams, Madison College scored a run off of Bryce Barsness' RBI single that plated Rex Morrow. Dan Schmidt led the team with two hits, and Danny Krause paced the squad with two RBI. Besides his game-winning single, Barsness recorded one steal.

Nathan Hoffman picked up the win, his first of the season, for the 'Pack after recording two and two thirds of scoreless relief in place of starter Corey Fischer. Out of the four runs Fischer allowed, only one was earned as Madison College committed two costly errors in the win.

The nightcap of the doubleheader turned out entirely different than the extra inning affair that started off the day, as Madison scored four runs after three innings before Triton scored their lone run in the fourth. The 'Pack then scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 11-1 win.

Dan Schmidt led the team with three hits in three at bats, while adding a team leading three RBI on two doubles while scoring one run. Greg Rhude added two hits, Joe Stubbe and Nathan Pollock each recorded two RBI, and Jeremias Delgado scored a team leading three times. Delgado also picked up two steals and Greg Rhude recorded one steal.

Zach Ransom started and finished the game on the mound as he evened up his record at 1-1 after picking up the win. Ransom struckout five and scattered five hits in five innings while only allowing one unearned run.

Next up for the baseball team is a doubleheader against Black Hawk College-Moline on Sunday, April 7. The first game of the home doubleheader starts at 1:00 PM.
