WolfPack Softball Swept in Two Games against Harper

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team just couldn't get on the board in N4C play losing the first game of the conference doubleheader to Harper College 6-8, before the weather spoiled game two. Eventually made up six days later in Madison, the results weren't much different for Harper as the held on for the 8 to 7 win on April 7.

In the first game in Palatine, IL, the WolfPack took a commanding lead (4-2) after three innings behind starter Samantha Schuchardt. Things looked promising for the starting hurler after tossing three straight scoreless innings of the Hawk's two-run first. Then the home team's bats started to heat up, and Harper scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 8 to 4 lead. Madison did manage to score two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Hawks held on for the two-run 8 to 6 win.

Jordan Bell, Andrea Lawrence, and Megan Hanke all recorded two hits apiece as the Madison offense belted out nine in the loss. One of Bell's hits was a two-run homerun, and besides finishing with two RBI, scored two runs. Megan Hanke also drove in two runs, and scored one, while Andrea Lawrence scored three times.

Samantha Schuchardt gave up eight runs (7 earned) in six innings of work, but was saddled with the loss. She also struckout six Harper Hawks.

In the second game of the doubleheader, played in Madison six days later, Harper picked up the win. This time 8 to7 over the 'Pack. Madison started strong and held a 2-1 lead over the Hawks after two innings, but Harper put up two runs in the third and five in the fourth for the 8 to 2 lead. The WolfPack made things interesting by scoring five runs of their own in the top of the fifth but the offensive barrage wasn't enough and Harper held on for the 8 to 7 win.

Jordan Bell led the team at the plate and went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Brianna Wagner finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Heather Edgren tripled to provide the lone extra basehit for the 'Pack, while adding two RBI and a run scored. Marissa Shaner scored two runs in the defeat.

Starting pitcher Paige Weber surrendered all of the Harper runs (7 earned) in three and two thirds innings, and Marissa Shaner tossed two and a third scoreless innings of relief.
