Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team got the best of the Triton College Trojans winning the opener of a home conference doubleheader header with a denominating 7-0 win, before losing the nightcap with Triton 2-3.
After one scoreless inning for both teams, the WolfPack took the bull by the horns and grabbed a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom half of the second, before essentially cementing the game with five runs in the fifth for the 7-0 lead. The seven runs were enough for starter
Marissa Shaner as she sailed in her seven innings of work on the mound and evened up her record at 5-5 with the 7-0 victory.
Both
Andrea Lawrence and
McKenzie Endres recorded two of Madison's nine hits. Endres got the offense going with her first inning triple, and
Heather Edgren joined in with a triple of her own. Endres finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, and
Heather Edgren joined her with two RBI. Endres also recorded the team's only stolen base of the game.
Starter
Marissa Shaner pitched great while picking up the complete game win in seven innings. Shaner only gave up two hits and walked one batter while recording eight strikeouts.
Things started off well for the WolfPack and starter
Paige Weber in game two as Madison College held a 2-1 lead after five innings, but the pesky Trojans wouldn't go away. They scored two runs in the top of the sixth and Madison had no answer for Triton's quick offensive strike as they held on for the 3-2 win over the host 'Pack.
McKenzie Endres paced the team with two hits, while recording one RBI.
Jordan Bell had the team's other RBI, and
Andrea Lawrence and
Michelle Farino both scored runs in the loss. Lawrence also added one steal, and
Lana Teisberg finished with two steals to pace the team.
Paige Weber pitched a great through five innings before giving up the go ahead runs to Triton in the sixth inning. In seven innings from the mound, Weber only allowed three hits to go with three earned runs. She also walked four and struck out four.
Next up for the WolfPack is their finale regular season doubleheader against the Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights on Sunday, April 28. The home game at the Softball Complex on the Truax Campus stats at 12:00 PM.
