WolfPack Softball Swept in Conference Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The WolfPack softball team's bad luck continued as the host team was once again swept in a doubleheader on April 21 to the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles defeated the 'Pack with relative ease 1-6, and 3-13 as the two N4C losses dropped Madison's conference recorded to 4-10. The team is 9-15 overall.

In game one, Madison scored their first and only run of the game in the first inning on Jordan Bell's grounder to short that plated Michelle Farino. After that, the WolfPack bats were held relatively silent and starter Marissa Shaner couldn't halt Rock Valley's hit parade as they stroked 12 hits for the 6-1 win.

Michelle Farino, Megan Hanke, Madison Milsap, and Heather Edgren each recorded one of Madison's four hits. McKenzie Endres reached base on a walk and Madison College collected three sacrifice hits in the loss.

Starter Marissa Shaner pitched seven innings and gave up twelve hits. She did surrender five unearned runs despite picking up 10 strikeouts for a team leading 59 on the season.

Madison College did score three runs in game two, but Rock Valley scored 13, including scoring eight runs in the opening frame. The visitors also scored four more runs in the top of the second. The victorious Gold Eagles only outhit the 'Pack by three hits (12 to 9), but Madison committed three costly errors in the shortened, five inning game.

Michelle Farino, Jordan Bell, Marissa Shaner, and Lana Teissberg all recorded two hits, and Julie Austin's one hit was the team's lone extra basehit. She tripled in the top of the fifth and game around to score in Madison's last ditch effort to avoid being run ruled. Bell, Shaner, and Treisberg provided the RBI for the 'Pack.

Samantha Schuchardt started for the 'Pack but only lasted one third of an inning after being hit in the knee on a hard hit first inning single. Unable to play on, Schuchardt was replaced by an already tired Marissa Shaner, who started the first game of the twin bill. Shaner allowed 11 hits in four and two thirds innings of work but was only responsible for three of Rock Valley's 11 runs since only three runs were earned.

The 9-15 WolfPack (4-10 N4C) are off until Wednesday, April 24 when they host the Joliet Junior College Wolves. The N4C game starts at 3:00 PM at the Madison College Softball Complex.
