Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team recorded a win over Parkland College by the score of 4-2 for their seventh straight victory, before finally suffering a defeat at the hands of the Parkland College Cobras 5-13 on April 21 in Madison. The WolfPack did reach the 20 win plateau by taking the first game, and the team's record is now 20-7 after the second game defeat.
Once again, the WolfPack were outhit in a game but were able to prevail behind dominate poitching. Out of the three WolfPack hits, none went for extra bases, but
Dan Schmidt,
Nathan Pollock, and
Luke Syens' hits were all timely as the team did manage to score four runs.
Ryan McShane and Pollock reorded the two RBI for the WolfPack, and
Danny Krause, McShane, Schmidt, and
Rex Morrow all scored.
Starter
Corey Fischer threw five innings of three-hit ball and allowed only one run before giving way to
Jameson Sadowske. Sadowske pitched a solid inning of relief despite surrendering an unearned run. He was replaced by
Dan Schmidt in the seventh inning save situation, and Schmidt came through for his first save of the year in one inning of relief.
In game two's 5-13 loss, the Parkland offense came to play as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning six runs in the first two innings (3 each inning) before Madison got on the board with one run in the bottom of the second. With the WolfPack down 7-2 after each team scored a run in the third, Parkland College exploded for three more in the top of the fourth, two more in the top of the fifth, and one more run in the top of the sixth for their 13, and Madison could only plate three more as they lost for the first time since April 7.
Ryan McShane recorded two of the WolfPack's six hits, including a double to go with his one run scored.
Nathan Pollock picked up the other double for Madison College and he led the team with two runs. Joe Sutbbe and
Evan Richarz recorded the 'Pack's only RBI of the game.
Starter
Mac Wichmann was saddled with the loss despite not giving up an earned run in his three innings of work. In three innings, Wichmann allowed four hits and walked five on his way to Parkland scoring seven runs. He was relieved by
Calen Rohrman who didn't fare much better in four innings of work. Rohrman allowed nine hits and walked four on his way to surrendering six runs (all earned). Despite his struggles, Rohrman did record six strikeouts and losing pitcher
Mac Wichmann recorded two.
The 20-7 Madison College baseball team has a day off before hosting the Elgin Community College Spartans on Tuesday, April 23 for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game at Robin Roberts Field starts at 3:30 PM.
